national guard troops have been deployed to the hardest-hit states of kentucky, indiana and missouri. jacqui jeras is here with me in the weather center keeping a close watch on all of this. let's talk about what concentrated areas are kind of in the bull's-eye, so to speak right now. florida among them. >> north florida and southern parts of georgia. it's really this squall line we are looking at right here that has the most potential for producing tornadic storms. right now there are no tornado warnings that are in effect. some of those thunderstorms could produce wind damage in excess of 60 miles per hour. sometimes those real down burst winds can cause as much damage as a tornado. you still need to stay indoors. another place that we are watching that's included in this tornado threat is jacksonville, florida. there you can see a live picture from jacksonville at this time. it's extremely windy. that's why you see all that crazy shaking going on on the camera there. 86 degrees. it's a very warm, very moist, ripe atmosphere. as that cold front starts to come on down and move into

sunday. susan candiotti, cnn, indiana. >> thank you very much. this has been a day of taking stock for victims of that deadly rash of tornados that hit 11 states. many lost everything. the extreme weather claimed at least 39 lives in kentucky, indiana, ohio, iand georgia. no corner of this small town was spared. homes annihilated and trees plucked out of the ground and there were scenes like this all over the midwest and south tonight. the number of people killed from the storm has risen to 21 in kentucky. despite damage, we are hearing stories of survival. here's tim in the hard hit town. >> reporter: on the out skirts of west liberty, kentucky, tornado survivors return home. >> this was your house? >> this was my house, yes. >> where is the house now? >> across the street in the parking lot. >> the rubble is across the street. that's your house? >> yes. >> she had only moments to make it into the basement and rode out the storm. >> can you believe you are safe and sound? >> it was all rather quickly. so quickly that i did not have a lot of time to think. you think back on it and thin

destruction. there are emergency declarations in place in indiana and kentucky. national guard troops have also been deployed there. before we take you live to indiana for the latest there, i want to show you now an amazing piece of video. it comes from west liberty, kentucky, shot just as the tornado was forming over the town. now, listen very closely to the desperate prayers from one woman as she pleased for her safety. >> take yourself away from our home. >> the prayers were answered. she did come through that storm safety. west liberty, however, was hit hard by the storm. at least three people died there. some of the worst damage we've seen is in indiana. cnn national correspondent susan candiotti is in henryville, indiana this morning. susan, what does it look like there? >> now that the sun is coming up, you can see even more of the crushing damage that has been suffered in this area. and as we speak, the governor of the state is being accompanied to this area coining some flyovers and is expected to be taking an on the ground tour of some of the heaviest damage where we are standing

guard troops were called up to kentucky and indiana to the hardest hit communities. you can see tornado in tennessee. dozens of people were injured in the storms. we are watching all angles of the story this morning. susan c susan is in ohio. rob is in tennessee where we have seen significant damage. bonnie schneider is standing by in the severe weather center. the damage we have seen have been small towns like henriville. how bad is it? >> reporter: it is very bad. crushing damage. people here are reeling from what happened to the area. 15 deaths confirmed so far in the entire state of kentucky. a couple of them here in clark county. just to give you an idea, look at this school bus, it was flown here from across the street where the high school is located in henriville. here is the front of the bus you are seeing and the back behind it. the chassis of the bus is resting this way. bus this way, chassis off to the side. it's an indication of how powerful the storms are. a number of us are lined up here, so i can't walk too, too much. as you look up in this direction, giving you

, indiana may never be the same. you can say that about so many communities in the path of these storms. at least 37 people have died. 14 of them were in indiana. and we learned that the tornado that hit henryville was an ef-4. that means sustained winds up to 200 miles per hour, we're talking nascar speeds here. it cut a path 52 miles long and it was as wide as 1 1/2 football fields. the damage, of course, is catastrophic. about 180 miles away, another town is obliterated. west liberty, kentucky. an ef-3 blew through the heart of this small town. winds were as high as 165 miles per hour. it seems no building was spared. the roofs are peeled off some. others were blasted to the ground. kentucky got some of the worst of it. 18 people died there. let's meet some of the brave people of henryville now. there a twister took away a family's home, but took a father, a dad. >> reporter: here in clark county, indiana, in henryville, only one person didn't survive that killer tornado. he's 64-year-old wayne hunter. this is the hill top home wayne and lanora built to raise their family more than 4

. one of the hardest hit areas of indiana was a town of henryville, north of louisville. josh levs joins us now with incredible images that we just got from that area. >> yes, it's coming to us from the newsroom this afternoon. hello again to all of you folks. this is some of the most dramatic video that we have seen from these storms and these tornadoes that ripped through parts of this country. let's take first a look at this video to set it up. okay. here's what you're seeing here. this is inside a gas station in henryville. a man named mike who had just not long before gotten inside that gas station and got a little bit of video. you can see a little bit out the window as the tornado came through. then he steps outside, let's watch this next video together. there it is, we're going to stay on this video. look at that. this is incredibly powerful. and tells us a story of what had happened. these tornadoes came through and actually flattened the gas station across the street from where he was. he says it was blind luck he came inside this shell gas station instead of another. loo

across indiana doing additional damage surveys with a team of people. the military has also moved in with search and rescue vehicles. in the south side of town in my live stream you can see there's four to five homes -- farms that had heavy damage and are gone. the tornado here was about 200 yards wide and it tracked through the city on the southeast side. everybody has been accounted for. most people are -- we do not have any injuries, just a couple injuries, no fatalities but marked damage on the south side of town. >> you're talking to us at the same time you're live streaming these images for us and in these images we are seeing people walking around. are these residents that are surveying the damage or are these first responders who are there to help, volunteers? >> reporter: both. we have a lot of local people here that are people walking down the streets that are local residents and family members. a lot of these people's farms have been here for a while, many generations. one family here on the south side of town, they have been here about three generations. their entire farm is g

. speaking of memories, it's one that a lot of people do not want to forget there in indiana. and now there is video to kind of help them remember the power of the tornado. these surveillance cameras are from henryville junior high school where on march 2nd those tornadoes or that tornado swept into the area and destroyed a number of homes and businesses as well, students were already on the school buses so they weren't actually in that school. and it is just frightening for a lot of people to see these images and get a better understanding of the power of a tornado. let's check in with jackie gerris now. really can't get enough of some of the images. we've been seeing a lot of new images over the past couple weeks after that tornado swept through the area. a lot of surveillance cameras are kind of finally revealing just how powerful and damaging it was. >> it was an ef-4 tornado. winds were estimated at 170 miles per hour. all this happened, it all unfolded in about 20 seconds. you might remember that this is the school that received a lot of damage. remember that school bus that ended up

henryville, indiana. you've seen the stories of survival and devastation from the tornadoes. but probably nothing as incredible as the story of stephanie decker. >> this is what's left of the decker's home after two tornadoes blew through henryville, indiana. but just before the devastation struck, stephanie decker didn't think twice. she immediately grabbed her 5 and 8-year-old boys, covering them with a blanket, shielding them from the debris. >> i was reaching around, holding them, and trying to keep everything away from them so it didn't hit them. >> reporter: but the wreckage did hit her, breaking seven ribs, almostsevering both of her legs. >> i had two steel beams on my legs, and i couldn't -- i couldn't move. i was stuck. >> reporter: but the worst wasn't over. a second twister headed righted for stephanie's family. pinned down by the steel beams, she covered her two children again. >> and they're screaming, mommy, i can't live without you, i don't want to die. please don't let me die. >> reporter: unable to remove the heavy debris on top of their badly injured mother, 8-

indiana, for instance, the cleanup is complicated because there was snow that fell overnight and a lot of people lost their homes and they had to spend the evening helping with recovery efforts. some of the victims of these storms say they might never recover. there is one woman, she survived the tornado, that slammed into indiana, but she lost the love of her life. patty was engaged, just one day before the tornado hit. her fiancee, he was in the mobile home with her when it was picked up and it was tossed around by those winds. >> i've lost everything. i've lost my boyfriend, my fiance, i've lost my home, everything in it. i lost my animals, my dog, everything. it's just so hard for me to believe that he's not here. it felt like i was floating, flying, is what i could feel like, and i could feel my receives going through the walls of the trailer. i remember when it first hit and i fell backwards, my first thought in my head was, this is it. i'm going to die. >> we wish patty all the strength and all the best. we know this is a very hard, hard time. there are so many tornadoes and pre

through the tennessee valley. storms firing in illinois and indiana and then ran across the ohio river into parts of kentucky. at times, i had 29 tornado warnings for 29 separate tornadoes on the ground or indicated by doppler radar. by about 10:00 at night, things calmed down. down to ten tornado warnings for ten separate storms. that seemed great because we were one third of where we were. when you look at t you see the ten tornadoes were still on the ground that late in the night. it typically happens that after sunset, the tornadoes start to calm down. the air is hot, the ground isn't hot because the sun is gone. the air doesn't want to rise anymore because it's not buoyant, hot at the surface, things start to calm down. the storms start to calm down. things are going to go up for a lot of the night, watches and warnings for the rest of the evening into the overnight hours. i don't see this being a big overnight storm system that keeps on going like the storm that did move through harrisburg into illinois three days ago. that hit at 5:00 in the morning. that's rare for that to happ

, indiana, wisconsin, even if he won all of those states, with gingrich in the race getting some delegates, romney coming in second or coming in third and getting some delegates, look what happens? romney still clinches the nomination, still clinches the nomination, maybe, maybe if santorum could take away california, romney still clinches the nomination. santorum would also have to win some place like new jersey to deny him and romney would have a big lead. that's one scenario. even if you take gingrich out on the theory that maybe he exits the race, say after a santorum victory in louisiana, the proportional delegate rules in most states suggest again even being extraordinarily generous to senator santorum that romney will be difficult to beat. let me show you that scenario. i'll change the map a little bit. go back to where we are today. even if you take speaker gingrich out, and then let's just say again santorum wins wisconsin, wins indiana, switch that one, let's say he wins west virginia, we'll switch that one, he wins kentucky, we'll switch that one and he wins north caro

santorum people say we can play in indiana. these will be key contests, west virginia, i'll give to santorum, north carolina for the sake of this hypothetical, santorum. it still has romney clinching. where else, if you look at the map. santorum under this scenario, being generous, louisiana, texas and wisconsin, indiana, what has to happen for senator santorum is under this scenario, romney would clinch by the finish line. how does senator santorum stop him? he has to win all of these states. then he would have to take away one of the big winner takes all. like california or georgia. but if you look at the math right now, governor romney is winning a majority of the delegates. he only needs 49% from here to the finish line. senator santorum is winning 20% up to today. he needs 70%. you can run that by the math experts. you guys tell me, who changes the map and how? >> all right, john avlon, who changes the map and how? >> i think the thing to remember right now is that it is not about what candidate can beat mitt romney. it's about whether the other candidates can block mitt romney

show you pictures from one of the most significant tornados today. this is henryville, indiana. about 30 miles north of louisville. the storm was on the ground for a very long time. we were live on tv here at cnn showing the tornado as it rolled along i-64 and then eventually it ran into henryville, indiana. here are some ground pictures of what that looks like. the destruction was left and right of the city. it crossed i-65 going right into the town. did hit the high school with a lot of damage there. no children were in that bus as it flipped over, thank goodness. take a look at some of the aerials, though, and they even make it look more horrific. you can look down and just see nothing. what was a house or what was a shed, completely gone. not even an indication of what that could have possibly have been. looking at this damage, we're looking at probably an ef-4 tornado. that's somewhere between 160 to 170 miles per hour. that would be very close to what we had just a few days ago in harrisburg, illinois. piers morgan tonight continues right after this. >>> he's not divisive

dangerous weather in ohio and the tennessee valley. much of indiana, missouri, kentucky are in danger. there has been a tornado emergency reported in madison county. we have live pictures of a menacing sky. the national and louisville. let's bring in chad myers at the cnn atlanta center. what is the latest? >> it goes all the way from illinois all the way down to georgia, alabama, as far west as louisiana and far north as virginia. on the backside, it's snowing up in squad cities. that's not atypical. you need cold air to clash. a couple areas still on the ground, to the north of chattanooga by bradley and north of cleveland in tennessee. and then another couple storms here popping up, not that far from cape girardo. that is harrisburg, illinois. right in the middle of a new tornado watch. that town that got hit so hard a couple of days ago. all of this area is under severe weather today. there will be a severe thunderstorm watch, tornado watch, and many warnings going through the night and probably into 10:00, 11:00 tonight. >> that means, keep it tuned here to cnn. chad will take th
